I received a message on my personal Facebook yesterday requesting an anwer to a question related to Australian Permanent Residency. As Registered Migration Agent, I need more than a single piece of information to advice anyone on any visa matter. For this reason, I have set up an appointment based system where I can ask detaield questions before I can give my opinion/advice on those matter(s).
I requested the person to book a time with me but he was insisting on getting an anwer and then only he woudl book an apppointment. This got me thinking: “Is he serious about getting a PR in Australia?” Here I am giving him an opportunity to discuss his matter for free for 20 minutes and he is insiting on getting an answer straight away. I had to resort to saying that it is our company policy and (mandated by our Code of Conduct) that I cannot give any advice without properly knowing the situation.

As I am also a businessman, I must balance things between business aspects and Code of Conduct. In any case, I have to follow the Code of Conduct even if it means losing business and/or money. My past expereince has shown that I should follow the Code of Conduct to the letter of the law if I am to run a successful Migration Practice. This has meant that I have lost a lot of opportunities as clients in our markets do not know of these good practices and are used to getting answers instantly (Instant Gratification). But that is OK. I have time to set up and teach my clients on how we can both benefit from following the Code of Conduct and good business practice.

Despite knowing all these benefits – if you are still thinking you are entitled to an answer whenver you call – specially when you are a new client/prospect- then my suggestion – rethink your strategy of getting your Australian PR.
